Call for Workshops, Tutorials and Panels

ACIS 2010
21st Australasian Conference on Information Systems
- Defining and Establishing a High Impact Discipline -

The Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) is the premier conference in Australasia for Information Systems academics and professionals, covering technical, organisational, business and social issues in the application of Information Technology. Its status has been recognized as an ERA-ranked A-conference. In 2010, the ACIS Conference will be jointly organized by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and The University of Queensland. The event will take place at the QUT Gardens Point Campus. The campus is located in the Central Business District of Brisbane, the fastest growing city in Australia. With 1.7 million people, Brisbane offers all the facilities and infrastructure of a global hub for technology and tourism.

Conference Theme
ACIS 2010 will be dedicated to the definition and establishment of Information Systems as a discipline of high impact for the scientific community and IS professionals. The focus will be on approaches that facilitate the identification of research questions of significant relevance that are studied by following sound research methodologies and that lead to results of measureable impact. Thus, the theme for ACIS 2010 will be: Information Systems: Defining and Establishing a High Impact Discipline. In addition to the dedicated tracks, ACIS 2010 now calls for proposals for:

  • Panels;
  • Workshops; and
  • Tutorials.

Panel, workshop and tutorial proposals must not exceed 3 A4 pages (single-spaced, Times Roman 10pt) and must conform to the ACIS2010 submission templates and guidelines. The 3-page limit must include all text, figures, and tables. The abstract, keywords, references, and list of panel members are excluded from the page limit. Information and requirements of each of the three types of proposals is provided below.

All panel, workshop and tutorial proposals must be submitted to the Panels, Workshops and Tutorials track using the online submission system at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=acis2010.

The program committee may also wish to discuss modifications to the proposals so as to meet conference participation guidelines and complement the overall program.

Panel Proposals
ACIS 2010 invites proposals for panel sessions that bring together experts from industry and/or academia with complementary or conflicting perspectives to discuss a research topic or other issues of importance to the IS field.

Panels will be organised as 1 ½ hour sessions, and should include 3-5 panelists. Panel proposals must include:

  • Title of the Panel, a 200-word abstract, and a brief outline
  • Name, affiliation and contact details for the panel chair
  • Names and affiliation of the panelists. (Note: Panelists must commit to participating in the panel prior to the submission.)
  • Qualifications of the panelists (for running the panel)
  • Planned activities during the panel
  • Target audience

Workshop and Tutorial Proposals
ACIS 2010 invites proposals for workshops and tutorials. Workshops and tutorials should cover any aspect of IS research, education or practice that is relevant to the IS community. Typically, these are hands-on sessions.

Tutorials will be organised as 1½ hour sessions and scheduled during the normal conference program.

Workshops may be for ½ or 1-day, and will be scheduled on Tuesday 30th November, 2010. Depending on the resource requirements, some workshops may incur an additional fee. Each workshop/tutorial proposal must include:

  • Tutorial or workshop title, a 200-word abstract, and a brief outline
  • Name, affiliation and contact details for the presenter
  • Qualifications of the speaker (for running the tutorial/workshop)
  • Planned activities during the tutorial/ workshop
  • Special requirements (e.g. Internet access, software etc)
  • Target audience and maximum number of tutorial participants (if limited)
  • Duration of Workshop (e.g. ½ day or full-day)
