Workshops
1. Service Management,
Software and Service Ecosystems –
Research as a Service
Tue, 30 Nov 2010,
9 am-5:30 pm
Background
In
most developed countries, we have been witnessing a transition from
a primarily goods-based to an increasingly networked service-based economy
in recent decades. This trend towards servitisation and service-oriented
thinking is reflected in the emerging academic discipline of Service
Science and in its design research-oriented normative part Service Science,
Management and Engineering (SSME). Information technology and information
systems largely shape the networked service society today. Nowadays,
services are developed, marketed and delivered by accessing the global
pool of people, information, and computer resources via the Internet.
The flexible combination of these services leads to the emergence of
ecosystems where service providers and consumers interact to collaboratively
create value. Research is needed that can guide management and engineering
of such ecosystems.
In this context, the workshop brings together and includes contributions
from three leading service and software ecosystems research groups/initiatives
from Germany and Australia (see agenda), thereby providing a premium
forum for showcasing and discussing their research portfolios, advancing
research agendas and exploring the potential for cooperative research
efforts. Particularly for potential industry partners, the workshop
aims at serving as a research marketplace that can be tapped into if
there is an appetite for future joint projects around these topics (idea
of “Research as a Service”). The workshop will kick off
collaborative efforts between the Queensland University of Technology
(QUT), Australia, and the University of Mannheim (“RISE –
Research Institute for Software and Service Ecosystems”), Germany,
as well as between QUT and the European Research Centre for Information
Systems (ERCIS) (“Networked Service Society”), Germany,
both funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research
(BMBF) to establish long-term academic relationships between Europe
and the Asia-Pacific region.
Objectives
The
workshop will provide a highly interactive forum for researchers and
industry experts to identify, consolidate and weigh upcoming trends
and research needs related to understanding and further shaping IS/IT
for the “Global Networked Service Society”, “Software
and Service Ecosystems” and “Business Service Management”
, which are “hot” and emerging topics in the IS discipline.
According to the “Research as a Service” idea, the workshop
serves as a marketplace for research capabilities, where three leading
groups showcase their portfolios, and will set the stage for conducting
joint IS research projects.
